LG Water filter replacement. This video is also an update on How to Change your water filter on your LG Refrigerator without turning off the water source. We got a new water filter for our LG Refrigerator. We changed our filter due to LEAD "water scare" in our state / specifically nearby cities. We live 8n the east coast - northeast US. This new filter is rated to filter LEAD and other contaminants from our water supply. This is our original How to Change the water filter on LG refrigerator: https://youtu.be/tqQeYXi2ddM
Here is a list of what I purchased and used on this video:
Aqua Crest Water Filter Deluxe for LG refrigerator: https://amzn.to/2S9uQaI
Baldwin Meadows Drinking Water 10 in 1 Test Strip: https://amzn.to/2GLSOTV
HM Digital TDS-EZ Water Quality TDS Tester: https://amzn.to/37Sqf34
Water Samples I tested came from our:
1. Sump Pit from my Basement. *Water from Sump Safe to Drink? The result of the test seems OK...
2. Tap Water from my faucet.
3. LG Refrigerator with existing water filter with NSF 42 rating
4. My new LG Refrigerator water filter with NSF 42, NSF 53, NSF 401 rating (Aqua Crest Deluxe Brand)
5. Brita Pitcher with water filtration with NSF 42 rating
Testing sump pit water - testing tap water - testing Brita water - testing water with nsf 42 filter - testing water with nsf 53
About NSF:
* NSF 42 certified to reduce: Chlorine–97%, Taste & Odor–97%
* NSF 53 certified to reduce: Lead–99.6%, Benzene–96.6% and other health-related contaminants
* NSF 401 certified to reduce: Estrone–96.6%, Phenytoin–95.2%, Ibuprofen–94.4%, Naproxen–96.2%, Bisphenol A–99.2%, Nonyl phenol–97.2%
About Drinking Water 10 in 1 Test Strip:
10 PARAMETERS in 1 STRIP: Water testing for Total Alkalinity, pH, Total Hardness, Iron, Lead, Copper, Nitrite, Nitrate, Chlorine & Fluoride.
About TDS (EC = Electrical Conductivity + TDS = Total Dissolved Solid):
This tester actually reads EC and calculates EC readings internally to give you TDS readings.
*Make sure you Rinse the TDS tester and reset it between water samples testing!
A TDS meter (aka ppm pen, nutrient tester, tds stick) is an inexpensive and convenient digital tool to instantly check your overall water quality. TDS = Total Dissolved Solids, which is any salt, metal or mineral in the water. With the push of a button, the TDS-EZ can tell you your overall water purity level, which will be displayed on the screen in ppm (parts per million).
The lower the TDS level, the purer the water, with 0 ppm being pure H2O. The TDS-EZ is great for checking your tap water quality, or knowing when to change a filter. The meter does not test for biological contaminants. The TDS-EZ is a great tool for drinking water, water filtration and purification, hydroponics (test your nutrients), aquariums, RO/DI systems, pools and spas, and more
*SHTF Water source? Does this mean my sump pit water is safe to drink? TDS and Test Strip show that my water from the sump pit is OK to drink... personally, I would still NOT Drink it! Perhaps in an extreme emergency... I would do purification first! Boil the sump water first or even better, distill it before consuming it! I would drink the water from my sump pit water ONLY in extreme emergency and ONLY after purification, boiling, or distilling. Sump Pit is found in many basements where water from "natural sources" (underground river - well water) get collected and pumped by a sump pump away from your property. I would say your worst problem here are the "unknown" - ie: bacteria, pesticides, and chemicals harmful to humans... The statement above is my opinion and by now way recommending consumption of sump pit water... make up your own mind and do what is best for your health! Final notes: Older homes combine or share sewer pipes! Newer homes have separate sewer and sump pit pipes. FYI: Sump water "as-is" is great to use for flushing toilets when city or well water is NOT available.
