In This Lesson:
Ms. Sonika Manandhar
▌She is a financial technology entrepreneur and a National Geographic Explorer from the Republic of Nepal.
▌Her studies focused on the engineering field, and robotics and artificial intelligence at Singularity University at NASA, in California.
Ms. Manandhar's efforts to improve the environment.
▌Ms. Manandhar uses her X™, formerly known as Twitter®, and Instagram accounts to spread awareness of the benefits of green micro-entrepreneurs for society.
1. Ms. Manandhar wanted to use her knowledge to improve the local environment
in the Republic of Nepal by reducing the carbon emissions rate.
2. She saw that using small electric buses could reduce the emissions rate.
3. She noticed that most of the minibus drivers in the capital Kathmandu were women.
Aloi Company
In 2019, Ms. Manandhar co-founded the fintech company Aloi, a company that
help people use financial services.
Aloi helps women minibus drivers in the Republic of Nepal:
get low-interest loans to buy electric minibuses.
upgrade their existing electric minibuses with long-lasting lithium-ion batteries.
► They receive and repay the loans through the company's platform, which is
simpler and faster to use than most current bank loan procedures.
► When the funder approves a loan, the business owner gets a digital token.
- She spends the token with an approved seller, such as an electric vehicle seller.
► Then she pays the funder back each month as she makes money with her business.
► All financial transactions are sent as an SMS (text), and as a result, there is no
need to use the internet.
► The platform reports the payment information, so the funders know exactly how the loans were spent and how much is paid back.
► Passengers may schedule rides on the company's website.
► They can pay with digital tokens or through mobile wallets.
Egypt and green economy
• As part of its strategy to adopt a green economy, Egypt launched its first locally
manufactured electric car.
• In February 2023, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime
Transport announced that :
1. The vehicle is designed to accommodate five people.
2. Its maximum speed is 60 km/hr.
3. It uses a lithium-ion battery.
4. The electric car is expected to have an affordable price for the Egyptian market.
Scheduling and paying for rides online have become increasingly popular in the past years.
► Transportation companies can quickly provide their services to a vast number of
people at the same time .
► Customers have access to these services anywhere and at any time.
Trips scheduling via social media
• Riders using minibuses in the Republic of Nepal sometimes schedule their rides using social media messaging tools on Facebook™ and Instagram.
Mobile Wallet
• It is an app for storing money.
► It can be used to:
1. send and receive funds.
2. pay bills (electricity, water, gas, etc .. ).
3. book travel tickets.
4. subscribe to services provided by companies.
5. access money and use it electronically anywhere and at any time.
