In This Part :
Nutrition
One of the characteristics of living organisms, in which they obtains food, that represents the main source of energy, and produces substances that are used in building their body.
Autotrophic organisms (Autotrophs)
Organisms that can make their own food through photosynthesis and they are called producers.
Heterotrophic organisms (Heterotrophs)
Organisms that depending directly or indirectly on other producers to obtain their food, and they are called consumers.
Respiration
A process by which a living organism obtains oxygen gas directly from its surrounding environment or through a respiratory system and release carbon dioxide gas during gas exchange.
Respiration in Unicellular Organisms
• Unicellular organisms, whether prokaryotes or eukaryotes, obtain oxygen gas directly from their surrounding environment and release carbon dioxide gas.
Respiration in Multicellular Organisms
• The respiratory organs responsible for obtaining oxygen differ in multicellular
organisms (eukaryotes) based on their type. For example :
Cellular respiration
It is a vital process involves breaking down organic nutrients, especially glucose, in the
presence of oxygen to release the energy required to carry out all biological activities.
Transport
* Multicellular eukaryotic organisms have specialized transport system for nutrients and gases, such as the circulatory system in human and the transport system in plant.
Excretion
A process by which living organisms get rid of harmful waste products resulting from
vital processes, as well as excess substances.
Movement
The process that enables the living organism to move from one place to another.
