Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
• Define descriptive study epidemiological tirade.
• Enumerate types of descriptive studies.
• Explain uses of cross-sectional study.
• Indicate advantages and disadvantages of cross-sectional study.
• Construct longitudinal study.

Course Description
The aim of this course is to identify the principles of research methodology used in medical field. In addition to provide students with some applied statistical concepts in the field of medicine & to enable them to evaluate & interpret quantitative & qualitative results.
Core knowledge
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
a1- recognize basic terms of epidemiological research methodology.
a2- recognize steps of Medical Statistics.
a3-Identify different types of studies observational & analytic.
a4-list steps of each type of the research studies.
a5- define odds ratio & relative risk & their uses.
a6- enumerate types of clinical trials
a7-explain uses & objectives of screening.a8-identify types of variables & sampling techniques
a9-identify measures of central tendency & dispersion.
a10-realize concepts of descriptive & inferential statistics.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
b1-construct study design according to the objective .
b2- compare between case control & cohort studies.
b3-Select proper frequency measures according to the type of data.
b4- design frequency distribution tables for different types of variables.
b5-choose the proper screening program.
b6-select the optimum way for data summarization.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
c1 apply the proper epidemiological study.
c2 calculate risk measures accurately.
c3 evaluate the screening test correctly.
c4 utilize frequency measures properly.
c5 calculate measures of central tendency
c6 plot various graphs according to type of data
c7 construct frequency distribution tables for various types of variables.
c8 apply the proper test of significance during summarization of data
