Hyperlinking is a nonlinear medium of navigating information which includes media such as graphics, video and plain text. Hyperlinks are user orientated, in that users can navigate documents by clicking on Hyperlinks that will take them to desired resources / documents. Hyperlinking is the backbone if the World Wide Web .

In order to create a hyperlink, there are three main components:

- HTML Tags: The HTML tags used to create a hyperlink: (a href, /a).
- Web Address: The destination of the hyperlink in the form of a web address. E.g. “http://www.web.edu.au”. Where clinking the link will take the user.
- Media: The media that will be used as a link for users to click on, such as an image or text.
