Resolution relates to the amount of individual pixels available for displaying image or video data on a monitor. The more pixels available within a monitor, the sharper the image that is being produced. Increased resolutions allow for larger images to be created for larger monitors with less pixilation as there are more pixels available on screen.

These days the standard display of a television is 1920 x 1080p, which is considered full HD. 4k resolution is slowly becoming the new standard for televisions that is capable of resolutions 4096 x 2160p, which is considered around four times the resolution of current high definition TVs. This means that a 4K TV could be made 4 times larger than a current high definition TV and produce the same quality of image.
