Increases in primary and secondary storage affect the information processes of processing and storage and retrieval. Increases to primary storage enable RAM to have a larger capacity, enabling more memory to be allocated to what's happening and being processed on the screen. Increases in secondary storage allows for more data to be stored on devices such as Hard Disk Drives (HDD's), Solid State Drives (SSD's) and Compact Discs such as Blu Ray.

For example, in gaming increased storage has enabled for more data to be stored on a game disc. The arrival of Blu-ray disc increased the amount of data could be stored in relation to the graphics of characters and locations within a game, coding related to the size of maps and overall scope of the game, as well as the audio of the characters that interacted with within the game. Ultimately the more that is stored on a disc, the larger a game can be. It is also essential that the hardware has enough RAM to process these larger amounts of data as the game is running live in order to render the locations correctly and give the users an optimised gaming experience.
