Printed Media includes paper documents such as books, magazines and encyclopaedias that are created using a combination of still text and images. Printed media is sold in stores as hard copies, though can also be delivered to individuals homes through subscription programs and online purchasing. Printed media has been around for centuries and is still considered by many the preferred way to read large amounts of textual data. An advantage of printed media is that no power is necessary to view the media, nor is there a need for a specific device.
Multimedia is displayed using a combination of text, hypertext, images, audio, animation and video elements. Information is presented on devices such as computers, tablets, mobile phones and other digital devices. Since multimedia is digital, it allows for interactivity with the user, who can navigate the product the hyperlinks and pre-programed buttons and gestures. Areas where multimedia may be used includes websites, games, apps and information kiosks. Multimedia can also be copied and distributed easily via email, downloaded from app stores and websites, making it accessible from almost any geographical location with an internet connection. Multimedia can also be installed / viewed from external storage such as optical disks (DVD, BluRay).
