What the heck is SGE? In this video, John Lincoln, a search optimization expert, will dive into Google's latest experiment, SGE. So what is it? Hint: it has to do with generative AI. It stands for Search Generative Experience and it's available in the US now.
Before I explain what SGE is and why marketers should care, here's some need-to-know background information:
First, when Google launched mobile, the concept of "near me" searches was pretty much entirely unknown. Then Google launched Lens in 2017 for visual searches, which now sees over 12 billion searches every month.
So now Google is seeing generative AI ads as the future of their ad platforms. With the advancements of generative AI, Google is able to make search a lot smarter and simpler for people.
Why marketers should care: search ads will continue to appear in ad slots throughout the page, allowing advertisers to reach their customers along their search journey. These ads will clearly be marked as "Sponsored" so searchers will see it is an ad.
